Molasses Joe's Magic Mocha Mix Boil a pitcher (mine is 6.25 cups) of water. (Don't boil it in the pitcher - put it in a saucepan first). Remove from heat. Stir in nearly one cup of good instant coffee, nearly three cups of sugar, and a bit over 3/4 cup of hot cocoa mix. Let sit for five minutes (which somehow helps some instant coffees, according to the jars), then add several ice cubes. Pour what you can back into the pitcher and refrigerate. Use half of what's left in the pot according to the directions below if you can stomach it at room temperature (or use an extra ice cube in the glass), and forget about the other half until late that night, at which point you'll likely toss it down the drain, put some water in the pot, and tell yourself that you'll clean it tomorrow. Once the mix is ready (i.e., cold), repeat the following process: Fill a tall glass half-way with (whole) milk. (That's not filling it, but so what?) Fill it the rest of the way with the Magic Mocha Mix. Drink it. After a few repetitions of this, you are now out of Magic Mocha Mix, so go buy some more sugar and start again. Note: Mocha is an Ethiopian (or generally Arabian?) coffee bean whose flavor is vaguely reminiscent of chocolate. American commercial culture uses the word to mean mixing chocolate into coffee. I am using the latter, superfluous definition because there are few more superfluous beverages that one might make at home than this: It neither quenches thirst nor contributes to health, it merely pleases the tongue. Disclaimer: The author of this recipe is a computer geek who knows nothing about real coffee.
