Olive's Holiday Cookies 3/4 cup (1.5 sticks) butter 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar 1 unbeaten egg yolk 1 Tbsp vanilla 1.75 to 2 cups all-purpose flour Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Cream (or melt if you're lazy) the butter. Gradually add the packed brown sugar and blend well. Add the egg yolk and the vanilla. Beat well. Blend in flour to form a stiff dough. Shape into balls the size of a marble shooter. (This is where your hands get oily. Deal with it.) Place on greased cookie sheet. Flatten to size of a 50 cent piece with bottom of a small glass dipped in sugar. (This is the fun part. Have the kids help. I like to use the glass to press a second coat of sugar on, after flattening.) Garnish with chopped nuts, almond slivers, jelly, etc. (The jelly ones rock!) Bake at 325 degrees for 13 minutes or until golden brown.
