Game Premises
- The game system is Dungeons and Dragons 3.5. Material from 2nd edition
may be inserted where appropriate.
- The game mechanics for 3.5 look superior, but we have vast materials for
2nd edition that we would like to not waste, if possible. We picked
Dungeons and Dragons because we hadn't played it in a while, and we missed
it.
- Game Mastering responsibilities are shared between Jay, Joe, and possibly
Brian. The campaign is a single, consistent and coherent campaign with a
consistent set of PC's.
- A shared game adds complication, but decreases the workload of any
particular GM. It will also be an interesting exercise. GM-only knowledge
will be shared on a need-to-know basis. GM's will take turns running story
arcs, which will be kept short due to our inability to meet frequently, or
maybe due to our short attention span. One-shot side quests may occur in
the absence of the current GM, to keep the game going. Brian's
participation in a GM'ing capacity depends upon his free time. The GM's own
PC will stay out of the spotlight, when present.
- There will be many worlds available for adventuring, connected through a
Spelljammer setting.
- The characters can travel by magical spaceship, if such can be found and
rented/stolen/whatever. Various of the worlds we have already created can
therefore be available for playing.
- The setting and style, for the most part, are those of a traditional
fantasy and high fantasy game, with character levels rising from two to
something respectable.
- Some people, myself included, would like a change from perpetually
playing low-level characters. If we're lucky, the game will last long
enough to eventually invoke the Epic Levels rules.
- A few of the characters are acquainted; they're all
in town for the same event.
- Players may agree, beforehand, about who knows whom, and how. All have
been invited to the small city of Dinas Felin to honor an acquaintance's
commission as the city's forester.
- We will play where we feel like playing.
- The locations will likely be, most of the time, Absurdity and Mt.
Nevermind, as Albany is a central location for our distribution of players.
Not that we're opposed to having games elsewhere, of course.
- We will attempt, when possible, to play on the second and fourth
Saturdays of every month.
- We will try (and sometimes fail) to find other days on which to play,
when a particular gaming date doesn't work. Sometimes, we will be playing
the Heroes Unlimited game instead, assuming that Brian has the time to
prepare. If the current GM cannot attend a game, another GM might run a
one-shot side quest. (Okay, I said this above. It's appropriate here too.)
- The starting player characters for the campaign:
- Brian: Rogue
Joe: Monk/Wizard (human)
Neil: Pixie sorceress
Joel: Human paladin of Unil-Gal (sun god) [Changed to ranger]
Jay: Elven fighter/wizard
Dave: Dwarf barbarian
Liz: Cleric of Tinandel (god of travel)
